#ThrowbackThursday! 3 Successful Celebrities Who Overcame Addiction!

Happy #ThrowbackThursday everyone! Inspiration in recovery helps to keep one dedicated to the journey ahead no matter what challenges we face. Merging the celebrities you already admire with the knowledge that they’ve walked the same journey as you serves to show just how much you can accomplish through addiction recovery. Here is a list about 3 inspirational and successful celebrities that overcame their addiction!

1.Robert Downey Jr.
This famous actor, well-known for his role as “Iron Man”, began using illicit substances when he was in high school. His drug use intensified as his acting career took off and became a notorious Hollywood bad boy. Police found cocaine, crack cocaine, and heroin in his car when he was pulled over for speeding in 1996. One of his most infamous moments was when he was found blacked out in the bed of his neighbors’ son in the same year. As a result, Downey spent almost a year in jail despite being sentenced to 36. He would face multiple other run-ins with the law before finally committing to recovery in 2002. Robert Downey Jr. achieved his sobriety through the guidance of a comprehensive drug rehab program. Despite his past, Robert Downey Jr. was able to turn his life and career around to become one of the most revered actors in Hollywood today. He has also worked to encourage others to seek recovery, including his own son Indio. When asked about addiction and recovery, RDJ once said: “People never change because they are under threat or under duress. Never. They change because they see something that makes their life seem valuable enough to start moving toward a life worth living.” Find that value within yourself, and nothing is impossible.

2. Russell Brand.
This male comedian had an addiction to heroin and his career was spiraling because of it. He finally decided to get the help he needed when he was told that he would die or end up in six months if he continued with his regular drug use. He even went as far as to create a documentary called “Russell Brand: From Addiction to Recovery”. You may be experiencing the same addiction Brand has. Instead of allowing your own life to spiral out of control, face your addiction instead. Your substance abuse will only continue to spiral out of control if you don’t address it. By enrolling in rehab and receiving the proper treatment for sobriety, you will be able to attain a sober life.

3. Fergie.
Known as the lead vocalist for the Black Eyed Peas, Fergie had her own personal experience with drug addiction. She opened up about her addiction to crystal meth and her use of ecstasy. The pressure surrounding Fergie began to grow in her younger years when when she sang in the female group “Wild Orchid” and began acting on television. Under growing stress surrounding her career, she turned to crystal meth as a means of escape. As this drug use began taking control of her life, she realized that she needed help to save her own life. In 2003, she was able to continue on with her career by joining the Black Eyed Peas. Despite her prior drug use, Fergie was able to overcome addiction and achieve success. She is now a successful wife, mother, and singer.
